SUWANEE -- A facility that hopes to create a "home-like community" that focuses on Alzheimer's and dementia care is coming to Suwanee early next year.

Autumn Leaves of Sugarloaf broke ground last month on a 26,000 square foot facility operated by The LaSalle Group and Constant Care Family Management, which will manage, design and operate the community. The $10 million project at 1455 Satellite Blvd. will provide care for 46-47 residents, and 45 employees will work there, said Darin Graham, director of sales with Constant Care Family Management.

"We are thrilled to bring high quality memory care to the greater Atlanta area," said president Chad Anderson of Constant Care Family Management in a recent news release. "Our 12 years of expertise in Alzheimer's and dementia care will allow us to enrich the lives of our residents and provide peace of mind to their families."

There are more than 25 Autumn Leaves communities open or under construction in Texas, Oklahoma, Illinois and Georgia, Graham said. These communities provide emotional, physical, social and nutritional needs for residents in a home-like environment.

The news release said the building would be designed in a way that the hallways would give the impression that they continue indefinitely. Windows would also allow enough light in to prevent claustrophobia and assist family members with dementia. Employees will undergo specialized training, and an in-house chef would work with doctors, a nutritionist and a dietician to create menus.
