Unlawful Killing, the controversial documentary funded by Dodi Al Fayed's father, Mohamed Al Fayed, about the circumstances surrounding Princess Diana's death, has been shelved after it failed to secure insurance to protect distributors against legal action. Directed by Keith Allen, the film alleges that the British establishment covered up details about the August 1997 deaths of Diana and Dodi. Although Al Fayed was "delighted with the film," it received a less enthusiastic reaction from certain critics and lawyers, the latter of whom requested that nearly 90 cuts be made if producers wanted to show the documentary in the U.K.

"Unlawful Killing has been sold all around the world," the film's spokesperson told the Sun. "But there was a specific form of insurance needed by the US distributors to cover them for their French and UK offices. This proved impossible to secure. The film has been withdrawn in perpetuity." After a screening at Cannes last year, The Hollywood Reporter declared Unlawful Killing "preposterous" and its conspiracy theories "far-fetched." Earlier this week, the first set photos from another Princess Diana movie surfaced, showing Naomi Watts in character as the People's Princess.
