Law & Disorder: Off-duty officer stops nude man heading for river

Police quickly nabbed a man and took him for mental treatment after he walked out of the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront hotel completely nude, heading in the direction of the St. Johns River.

The fully bearded man, who police would only say was born in 1983, walked out past the front of the hotel's drop-off area and was near a large decorative fountain when he was spotted by an off-duty officer working security for Jaguars owner Shahid Khan's luxury ship.

The officer ordered the man back toward the hotel, where he sat down on a bench and was quickly covered with a blanket.

A valet worker said the man was staying at the hotel, though Hyatt security management declined further comment.

When asked what he was doing, the man told police he was "taking a bath," officer R.W. Reonas said.

Reonas said the man said he had forgotten to take his medication and would be taken to a Mental Health Resource Center location for help.
