Emanuel Steward’s passing confirmed

Emanuel Steward's passing confirmed

fightnews.com | Oct 25th 2012

Extremely sad to report that legendary trainer Emanuel Steward has passed away today at the age of 68. Manny underwent surgery for an undisclosed stomach disorder in September and had been hospitalized since. There were conflicting reports on the condition of Steward, but the Steward family has now issued a statement confirming the great man's passing.

Earlier today during the ongoing WBO Convention, WBO President Francisico "Paco" Valcarcel called for a moment of silence. Valcarcel recalled Steward's training seminar in last year's convention in Puerto Rico. Heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko also issued a statement.

Steward is perhaps best remembered as the legendary founder of the Kronk Gym and the trainer of Hall of Famer Tommy "The Hitman" Hearns, as well as his work with heavyweight champions Lennox Lewis and Wladimir Klitschko. He was also a frequent commentator on HBO Boxing. Emanuel Steward was extremely knowledgable, always friendly, and will be greatly missed by everyone here at Fightnews.
