Pedro Hernandez, the man only recently taken into custody on suspicion of the murder of 6-year-old Etan Patz in 1979, was hospitalized Friday afternoon when authorities feared he might commit suicide, according to a report from CBS News.
Hernandez was scheduled to appear in court in New York City on Friday, but has been placed in custody at Bellevue Hospital's secure wing instead.
Patz's body was found in a basement this April, and it was his case that sparked the national missing children's movement in America after he disappeared from a Manhattan bus stop more than 30 years ago.
Reports that Hernandez confessed to the murder were reported this week.
