DELRAN — A Santa Barbara, Calif., man was charged with shipping $1 million worth of high-grade marijuana from California to a public storage facility in the township, authorities said Tuesday.

Thomas Arnold, 55, was arrested May 16 in the township after the shipment arrived in a large cargo container at the undisclosed storage site, the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office said.

Inside the container were 15 large boxes of marijuana weighing a total of about 250 pounds, making it one of the largest drug seizures in county history, authorities said.

Arnold was charged with possession of drugs and possession of drugs with the intent to distribute. He was placed in Burlington County Jail in Mount Holly in lieu of $250,000 bail.

The Prosecutor's Office declined to release any further details, citing the ongoing investigation.

Multiple agencies were involved, including the Prosecutor's Office's Gang, Gun and Narcotics Task Force, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, New Jersey State Police, and Delran police, Burlington County Prosecutor Robert D. Bernardi said.

"This was a very effective, collaborative effort, and I appreciate the involvement and hard work of all the agencies that participated," Bernardi said in a statement. "The message to dope peddlers is very clear: We are out there every day looking for you. If you plan on plying your trade in Burlington County, we will find you, arrest you, and bring you to justice."
